1) High price of staying loyal
Customers who stick with the same insurer every year and do not switch are paying too much. Some £1.3 billion a year is wasted by drivers who automatically renew their motor insurance with the same company.
Nearly a quarter of motor insurance policies are renewed without a look in the rear mirror, according to the price comparison website MoneySuperMarket.
But it affects home insurance deals too. Worryingly, older customers in particular are losing out. A number of readers complain that elderly relatives have been paying hundreds of pounds more than they needed to each year by staying loyal to one insurance company.
