Readers of The Mail on Sunday have been quick to detail their dissatisfaction with insurers following our coverage of loyal customers being royally ripped off. Here, The Mail on Sunday reveals the main gripes customers have with providers of house, car and travel policies.

1) High price of staying loyal

Customers who stick with the same insurer every year and do not switch are paying too much. Some £1.3 billion a year is wasted by drivers who automatically renew their motor insurance with the same company.

Nearly a quarter of motor insurance policies are renewed without a look in the rear mirror, according to the price comparison website MoneySuperMarket.

But it affects home insurance deals too. Worryingly, older customers in particular are losing out. A number of readers complain that elderly relatives have been paying hundreds of pounds more than they needed to each year by staying loyal to one insurance company.
