When will burglars most likely strike this Christmas?

December 23, 2015 | 5years | Insurance News

New data has revealed that December is the month you are most likely to be burgled.

According to Direct Line Home Insurance, the top five days last year for burglaries were the 5th, 6th, 11th, 17th and 18th of December.

At this time of year people are often out enjoying the festivities with family or friends, which provides the perfect opportunity for burglars to strike.

The data also revealed that the 23 December is when most claims are likely to be made, which has been the case for the last two years.

But it appears even burglars need a day off, with claims rapidly falling on Christmas Eve (65% below the yearly average), Christmas Day (56% below) and Boxing Day (41% below).

Bicycles are the most common item stolen over the Christmas period, followed by mobile phones and tablets. Other popular items include laptops, games consoles and cameras.
